After my little post yesterday about how to compile kernel karmic, tonight I was able to create a successful kenerl for subflavour xpsm1330 with very few changes to the and the stats were looking good. My previous boot times with generic-2.6.31-2 was 18+ seconds, my first kernel run on 15th of July was failure (X [...]

I have recently started a project to reconfigure and compile kernel specific to Dell XPS-M1330 laptop, so I have downloaded latest development version of the kernel (ubuntu-linux-image 2.6.31-4.23). I have tried to use how-to’s on the internet but found out that ubuntu/debian scripts in Karmic have changed(Thanks to Tim Gardner). The old way was to [...]

This project is specifically aimed for providing kernel packages for XPS-M1330 laptops. And main aim is to release custom kernel for every upstream kernel released by Ubuntu, i.e. in line with Ubuntu releases.
If you are interested please goto https://launchpad.net/kernel-xps-1330. You can read the purpose of the project and register blueprints if you want some specific features and also ask questions there.

Today, I took some time to compile my first custom version of linux. Since this is the first time, I took the Ubuntu generic config file, and did very minor changes to the config file. And as usual, with every first time, its not good news. The kernel did boot, but could not load GDM. [...]
Another task, Custom Kernel…
Posted in Projects, tagged compile, Linux, project, xps-m1330 on July 13, 2009 |
Per the previous post, my first task is to create a UTasks.sh file to do necessary things after fresh install. Once I have done that and all, next step is to create a custom kernel. I have read so many posts about “How to Compile Kernel Image” and “Compile custom kernel, is it worth it..” [...]

This is a question to everyone.. You choose a Flavor of Linux like Ubuntu, Debian or Fedora and you have successfully installed it… Now you have logged in for the first time.. What would you want to change/do.. ..Obviously first option is to do an update? ..Download new themes and change Default theme, background etc? [...]

So, from previous post, I have learned and shared how to install and use bootchart and here is my first boot chart. And from the last post you have seen that the laptop I am using has all the latest hardware and it is a quite powerful machine for a desktop, but it has become [...]
